First version
MVP development for a first version
Help defining and building an MVP: a small first product people can use, test, and continue from.Start from the first version
Tell us who the user is and what they need to be able to do. We will come back with the next step.
An MVP is a small product, not only a shorter feature list
MVP development starts with deciding what must happen in the first version and what stays out: the first user, the main action, the first platform, and the smallest working product that can launch and keep growing.Focus
One first user, one action, and a clear signal that the action was completed.Platform
Mobile, web, or both later. Everything does not have to be built at once. What comes next
The first version is built so you can learn from it and develop the next one.
How the first version is defined
Pick one user and one action they must be able to finish. Anything that action does not require stays out of the first version, even if it matters later. That keeps MVP development tied to a clear goal instead of building a product that is too wide too early. How features are chosen
A feature is included only if the main action cannot be finished without it. The rest is written down for later, and is not built now.A prototype and a working product
A prototype shows a direction: a clickable screen, a demo, or a flow you can present. People cannot rely on it day to day, and it does not have to keep their information. A working product, even a small one, lets a real person finish the main action, and the system remembers what they did. Here an MVP is that small working product, not a prototype that gets thrown away.
How the scope gets smaller
Cut screens, kinds of users, and platforms. A first version can be mobile only or web only. It does not have to be both.- If the first version is an app, seeiPhone and Android app development
- If it is a browser-based system, seeCustom web system development
- If the first version tests an AI-based business use case, define one clear capability and validate it before expanding.AI development and integration
What happens after launch
Once people are using it, you see where the flow gets stuck and decide what enters the next version. There is no promise of business success or of raising investment. The first version is built so the next one can continue from it, instead of replacing it.
What the work includes
A specification call
Who the first user is, and which action they need to finish.Cutting the version
Write down what is built now and what stays out.Building
Build only that version, on mobile or on the web, according to the choice.Checking the main action
Make sure a real person can finish it.
What to bring to the specification call
- Who the first user is
- Which action they need to finish
- What already exists: nothing, a design, or a partial product
- Whether the direction is mobile, web, or still open
- What you have already decided will not be in this version
MVP development questions
How do we choose what enters the first version?
We start with one first user and one action they must be able to finish. Any screen or feature that is not required for that action waits for a later stage, even if it matters to the product later.
What is the difference between a prototype and an MVP?
A prototype demonstrates an idea or flow, but people do not necessarily use it for real work. An MVP is a small working product that keeps the needed information and lets you test real usage.
What do we get at the end?
You get a defined first version of the product: an app, a web system, or part of one, with the core flow, screens, and connections needed to use it. The exact scope is set during specification.
How do we decide the next stage?
Once the first version is in use, we look at where users get stuck, what is missing from the core value, and what should be built first. The next stage is based on real usage, not a long feature list written too early.
